How We Approach a Flooring Job
How Flooring Works
A flooring installation typically runs like this:
Estimate & Material Review
We measure the space, confirm the flooring material, and provide a free written estimate.
Remove Old Flooring
Existing flooring is removed if needed, and the subfloor is inspected for damage or unevenness.
Level the Subfloor
Low spots or damaged sections are corrected so the new flooring sits flat and doesn't flex or gap.
Acclimate the Material
Flooring is allowed to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity before installation, where the product calls for it.
Install & Trim
Flooring is laid room by room, with transition strips and trim fitted at doorways and edges.
Reinstall Baseboards & Inspect
Baseboards go back on, and we walk the finished floor with you to check for gaps or issues.
Our Approach to Flooring
Subfloor condition matters more than the flooring product itself — an unlevel or damaged subfloor will telegraph through almost any finished floor over time, so we check it before installation starts.
Letting flooring acclimate to the room before it's installed reduces the chance of gapping or buckling later, especially in Charlotte's humidity swings between seasons.
We install flooring in a sequence that respects expansion gaps at walls and transitions, which keeps the floor performing well as temperature and humidity shift through the year.
What Affects Cost & Timeline
Every project is different, so we quote after a walkthrough rather than guessing over the phone. Here's what generally moves the price and schedule:
Total square footage being installed
Condition of the existing subfloor
Whether old flooring needs to be removed first
Number of rooms and transitions between flooring types
Baseboard removal and reinstallation needs

“We had a great experience working with AMV Construction Group on our bathroom renovation. “If I could give Alberto and AMV 100 stars I would! He did my kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room and I can’t say enough good things about him and his employees. Everything was done on time, if not early, and their work is meticulous. If a problem arose, it was solved and fixed before I could even stress about it. Easily the smoothest home improvement process I’ve had, despite it being the largest. Do yourself a favor, and call AMV!”

“We have used AMV for several home improvement projects, including full bath and kitchen remodels. My husband also works in the trades and he is very picky about craftsmanship. Alberto and his team are talented construction experts AND they provide excellent service. If you’re looking for “cheap”, maybe they aren’t your best bet; but if you’re looking for quality work, that lasts, and you don’t have to chase down to get it done, and fair pricing, look no further. Highly recommend!”

“Like several of my neighbors, I used AMV CG to repair and paint the outside of my home last year. They were very responsive, thorough, professional and trustworthy. The cost was fair and they are fully insured. I will continue to use them.”

“AMV Construction completely updated our kitchen for us, put in a large picture window in our dining room and made beautiful custom barn wood shutters for the window to close at night. They also rebuilt the bases on our front porch pillars. They did an excellent job on everything and we definitely would hire them again! :) ”

“I have used AMV construction (Alberto) for many years and always get first-class workmanship and five-star service. AMV has done renovations, painting and other construction work for me. The attached photos show my laundry room full renovation and an awesome barn door in my garage Alberto constructed to hide all my garden equipment. When painting the exterior, Alberto will always find and recommend replacing rotting wood (with PVC which never rots). Many painters I have used in the past simply paint over the rotting boards. Alberto’s team always shows up on time and many of his team have been with him for years. This is an honest, professional, family-run business I would highly recommend. I live in a subdivision of Piper Glen and many of my neighbors also use the AMV Construction team for all our painting or renovation needs.”

“We have used this family owned construction and remodeling company for over six years. They are excellent and never ever any surprises. When we moved to Waxhaw, Alberto and his company remodeled the house extensively- they were right on budget, great work ethics, and wonderful updates to the kitchen, baths, sunroom, and built is an office ! We only use Alberto and his company! We have another project they will begin this month. Yes, I am sold on this family owned construction company, the brothers and their sons plus their employees ! ”
